Rockie Fresh ushered in his legality with a deal to Maybach Music Group and now on his 22nd birthday, the Chicago-bred spitter is celebrating the roots of his flavor.

The Electric Highway rapper spoke to VIBE as his new single “Panera Bread” dropped on the e-streets.

“I was in the studio feeling real good,” Fresh recalled about crafting the record which features Rick Ross and Lunice. “My favorite line in Ross’ verse…just the way he says Panera Bread in the song is super dope and I ended off my verse shouting out Panera Bread.”

The lyrical mention was no spontaneous craving but birthed from a history with the soup-and-sandwich chain. “It’s one of my favorite restaurants. When I was in high school there was one right by my school so we used to leave school and walk over there.”

Nowadays, he lightens his pockets for a low-key meal that’s close to home. “I get the broccoli and cheddar soup bowl or sometimes I get a regular sandwich and a side.”

Only question remaining: will Panera cut a check? “I hope so,” he says. “Let’s do it.”
