Selena Gomez and Meryl Streep are both well respected in Hollywood, albeit for very different things. Gomez started acting at a young age in commercials but really blew up thanks to her work with Disney, specifically the hit show Wizards of Waverly Place. She established herself as a pop singer, body positivity activist, and makeup brand creator all while still following her acting passions and dealing with very personal, but also public, health issues.

Meryl Streep was older than Selena Gomez when she got her start in the mid to late 1970s after being inspired by Robert De Niro's performance in 1976s Taxi Driver. From there, she worked hard to climb the ranks and win several prestigious awards throughout her career.

Now it seems that their worlds are colliding, with the pair working together on season three of Hulu's Only Murders in the Building and solidifying their friendship both on screen and off.

Selena Gomez Has Several Powerful Friends

Selena Gomez once said that her only industry friend is Taylor Swift, but the truth is Gomez is friends with several of Hollywood's most popular elite, with Swift just happening to be one of the most popular and influential among them.

Gomez and Swift have been friends for quite some time now, both having dated two of the Jonas brothers around the same time. Selena Gomez is also on-again-off-again best friends with actress Francia Raisa, who donated a kidney to Gomez in order to save her life due to complications from Lupus.

Some unlikely and surprising friendships Selena Gomez has developed since her start in Hollywood include Friends actress Jennifer Aniston, model Cara Delevigne, who Gomez has actually known since they were both 15, and Brooklyn Beckham with his wife Nicola Peltz.

Although the pair may not exactly be friends, Gomez has also been photographed alongside Hailey Bieber following the media frenzy surrounding both ladies' relationships with Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber and appears to be on good terms with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus as well.

Selena Gomez Has Been Starring In Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders in the Building is a Hulu original starring Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora alongside long-time Hollywood comedians Steve Martin, as Charles-Haden Savage, and Martin Short as Oliver Putnam.

Some other familiar faces in the show include Cara Delevigne as Alice Banks, Nathan Lane and Teddy Dimas, and Tina Fey as Cinda Canning. The show follows the characters played by Gomez, Martin, and Short as true-crime fans who suddenly find themselves wrapped up in a real-life true-crime situation when a death occurs inside the building they all live in.

The trio then finds themselves attempting to find out who the killer, that possibly lives in their building, might be. Fans of the show know the chemistry between the main three actors is undeniable, but Only Murders in the Building almost didn't feature Gomez as its leading lady.

Initially, the character Gomez is playing in the show was written as a male character, and it was Steve Martin's suggestion to not only make the character female, but much younger than himself and Martin Short. Once the idea was out in the ether, executive producer Dan Fogelman knew Selena Gomez would be perfect for the role.

Meryl Streep Joined The Cast Of Only Murders In The Building

Only Murders in the Building has been a hit and is gearing up to air its third season on Hulu. The dynamic between Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez is readily apparent on screen, even with the age gap between them.

Now it seems the show is going to have a fourth person to add to that dynamic, and one that Selena Gomez has called "the woman I adore, look up to and love" and that's none other than the legendary and iconic Meryl Streep.

Streep is famously known for the ability to portray a wide array of characters, from the serious Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, to voice acting in the children's film Fantastic Mr. Fox, and now she will be able to show off more of her comedic chops in Only Murders in the Building.

Selena Gomez took to Instagram to commemorate Meryl Streep's time on the show set with a picture of the two together, seeming to solidify the friendship they have been able to cultivate with each other.

The caption on the picture reads "I'm not sure I have enough words to explain just how beautiful this season has been. It has been deliriously hilarious, challenging and for me, an absolute dream. I'll post more soon. But I'll leave it with the woman I adore, look up to and love."

Selena Gomez continues to build bridges with some of the most elite members of the Hollywood machine, and it appears that her connection with Meryl Streep is nothing but loving and genuine, and who knows what other opportunities this may open up for both of these powerful women.
